With Dingle Dell, known as the mother of the Rescued Rhinos @ HESC project
In August 2013, three rhinos were found darted and dehorned by poachers on the Kapama Private Game Reserve. The bull died, but the two severely injured cows survived and were treated and rehabilitated at HESC where they have lived peacefully ever since. Treatment of the inured Dingle Dell and Lion’s Den entailed the development of innovative procedures like the use of biodegradable fibreglass nasal casts. The two rhinos are almost inseparable today and are also very attached to Gertjie and Matimba with whom they share an enclosure.
